Inorganic Zinc Coatings

A reputable performer in the protective coatings industry, inorganic zinc coating is created with metallic zinc dust and a high-performance binder (typically silicate).

Inorganic zinc coatings supply advanced corrosion protection for steel and other surfaces, along with superior resistance to aggressive weathering. Performance is heightened when a topcoat is applied over the zinc coating.

Common uses for inorganic zinc coatings include, but are not limited to:

  • Bridges
  • Oil refinery equipment & platforms
  • Pipework
  • Structural steel
  • Tanks & vessels

Benefits of Inorganic Zinc Coatings

When painted or sprayed onto a clean, prepared surface, inorganic zinc coatings are mechanically exceptional and able to resist scuffing, scratching, and impact.

Additional advantages of inorganic zinc primers and paints include:

  • Heat resistance to temperatures up to 800°F.
  • Saltwater resistance. While not all zinc coatings can be used for subsea applications, certain formulations of inorganic zinc-rich coatings withstand corrosive saltwater environments.
  • Solvent resistance that is ideal for use in chemical plants and oil refineries.
  • Durability as a primer or a topcoat.
  • Compatibility with other coatings like silicones, acrylics, and epoxies.
  • Galvanic action. While zinc is under attack from the elements, the underlying steel is protected.
